Friend or Foe _ Belfu Berkol

I asked an acquaintance from my dorm—someone I only casually greet in the hallway—to remind me to submit a research form before midnight. It was a simple request, but one that required them to remember and take a small action for me.
I realized that I often underestimate how willing people are to help when given a clear, specific task. I assumed trust had to be “earned” through long relationships, but this exercise showed me that small acts of trust can actually create connection. Sometimes, extending trust first invites others to rise to the occasion.
Yes—positively. The acquaintance not only texted me on time but also checked back later to see if I had submitted the form. Their extra effort surprised me and made me appreciate how people often go beyond expectations when they feel trusted.
This experience reminded me that trust is not just a product of teamwork—it’s the foundation of it. In ventures or communities, showing confidence in others’ reliability encourages accountability and mutual respect. Trust builds momentum: when one person takes the first step, it inspires reciprocity, collaboration, and shared ownership of outcomes.
