Framework #1: Explore Berkeley I&E Founding Stories _ Bailey Paquette

I picked Lime, founded by Toby Sun and Brad Bao, co-founders. Competitors are Bird, Spin, and Bolt Mobility, and in the bay, Veo!
Lime stands out because it actually cares about sustainability and works closely with city governments to make sure its scooters and bikes fit into local communities. While a lot of other companies rushed to launch and ran into problems with city rules, Lime focused on safety, regulations, and building trust. They also use carbon credits, renewable energy for charging, and recycling programs to keep things environmentally friendly. Plus, they’ve expanded to over 200 cities around the world, showing how flexible and adaptable their system really is.

Lime targets urban commuters, students, and environmentally conscious travelers seeking quick, cost-effective, and eco-friendly transportation. The platform also appeals to younger generations who value convenience, sustainability, and technology-driven lifestyle solutions. Exploring Lime’s journey taught me that innovation often begins with rethinking the everyday. Lime didn’t invent transportation—it reinvented how people move through cities. What stood out to me most was their resilience; despite early challenges with vandalism, regulation, and public skepticism, Lime continually evolved its technology and policies to create a more sustainable and user-friendly system.

For my own career, Lime’s story reminds me that successful ideas balance vision with practicality. Their approach to problem-solving, combining environmental responsibility with cutting-edge technology, shows the power of aligning business goals with social impact. As someone passionate about marketing and communication, I’m inspired by how Lime built a recognizable, purpose-driven brand that resonates globally.
