1. What’s one new insight you walked away with?
To be honest, I hadn’t thought much about the difference between having access to AI and having control over it. I usually compare AI tools based on how useful their answers are, but this content made me consider who decides the pricing, access, and future availability. For an organization building around AI, those decisions can matter as much as the model’s performance. It also made me realize that the most powerful model might not always be the best fit for a particular organization!!
2. How could you apply something you learned to your school, career, or daily life?
As an international business student interested in startups and venture capital, I could use this perspective when evaluating an AI startup’s business model. Beyond asking what its product can do, I would ask how dependent it is on one model provider. What happens if that provider raises prices or discontinues a model? Could the startup switch without rebuilding its product?
3. What would you like to see covered in a future episode?
I’d love an episode featuring an early-stage founder who has actually chosen between open-weight models and a closed-model API. How did they weigh cost, privacy, performance, and the technical work required? Hearing what went wrong, what surprised them, and whether they would make the same choice again would make this debate feel much more concrete for students hoping to build something themselves~
