An insight from Get the Check that stuck with me: early-stage female operators built a real startup ecosystem not through some grand strategy, but by pairing complementary co-founder strengths, giving each other grace, and just consistently showing up alongside full-time jobs. It’s basically the same dynamic I study in platform ecosystems — trust and momentum come from consistent, complementary behavior over time, not from a single big move. I want to apply that to how I structure team roles in my own projects: play to actual strengths rather than trying to cover everything myself, and treat consistency as the discipline, not the exciting part. For a future episode, I’d be curious to hear how young, non-technical international students can break into early-stage startup roles or get their first look at angel deals while still full-time in school.
