My major is Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS), and I attended ESPM 50AC: Introduction to Culture and Natural Resource Management.
In all honesty, I chose this class because my friend was in it, and I was too lazy to look at other class sections and go. But out of all of my friend’ classes, I chose this class because it was the most completely different class from the classes I normally take. Most of my focus is on technology, math, and engineering, so I wanted to see how people and culture influence problems that have solutions not using technology.
One lesson I took away from the class is that the way people interact with a problem depends on their culture. This applies to EECS because creating a good solution is not just about whether the tech works. You also have to understand the people who will use it, how they will use it, and the environment in which it will be used.
