I attended ESPM 50AC.
At first, I had chosen this class just for my American Cultures requirement, but soon I found out the depth of environmental history and the different outlooks you can have on the world and world events. For example, with limited knowledge, one can say Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster. However, as you research more, you may realize it was a human disaster – the damage could have been greatly reduced if we had capable people in charge and racism wasn’t deeply rooted in society.
I learned so much about how the act of doing environmental history has changed as humans’ perception of their connection with nature has changed. I also learned a lot about how Hurricane Katrina was so much more than a natural disaster.
