Attend a Class Outside your Major _ Belfu Berkol

I attended a Philosophy class with my friend.
I’ve always loved philosophy — it was one of my favorite subjects back in high school. Since I attended a French lycée, I was curious to see how philosophy is taught and discussed at UC Berkeley compared to the French approach.
I discovered that the American approach to philosophy is often more discussion-based and applied to real-world contexts, whereas the French approach tends to be more theoretical and text-centered. At Cal, students openly debate ideas and connect them to contemporary issues, while in France, we focused more on analyzing classical philosophers in a structured, essay-based format. It was fascinating to see how both systems encourage critical thinking in different ways.
