Attend a Class Outside your Major _ Adam Bellet

1) What class did you attend?
I attended the class “Democracy at a Crossroad” taught by Robert Reich at the Goldman School of Public Policy.
2) Why did you choose that class?
I chose this class because Robert Reich is a well-known political economist and former U.S. Secretary of Labor whose work I admire. I wanted to step outside of my business-oriented studies and gain a broader understanding of how political and social dynamics influence economies, entrepreneurship, and society at large. It was also an opportunity to experience the perspective of public policy students, which is quite different from my usual academic environment.
3) What did you discover?
I discovered that Reich emphasizes the fragility of democratic institutions in the face of economic inequality, corporate power, and polarization. He highlighted the importance of civic engagement, transparency, and collective responsibility to preserve democracy. I realized how closely democracy and economics are linked: policies on taxation, regulation, or labor rights shape not only markets but also the stability of democratic systems. This perspective broadened my vision, reminding me that entrepreneurship and innovation cannot be separated from the political frameworks that sustain them.
