Submission Deadline | 10.03

What to Submit

Fungi have significant potential in the future of the bioeconomy, but major barriers—including limited tools, expertise, and standardized methods—still make them difficult to use at scale. New approaches are now enabling researchers to domesticate fungal species much faster, opening up opportunities that once took decades.

Open Fung believes fungi could play an important role in sustainable manufacturing. By developing the tools, resources, and frameworks needed to work with fungi more efficiently, they aim to make fungal innovation easier to develop and scale.

In this challenge, you’ll get hands-on experience creating fungal biomaterials and learn how mycelium can be grown, shaped, and processed into useful materials. You’ll also learn about Open Fung’s work as a nonprofit and the challenges it is addressing in the fungal bioeconomy. This challenge is a great fit for anyone interested in exploring the intersection of science and art!

Important: RSVP here, and please write 1–2 sentences about what motivates you to attend. Materials are limited, so we’ll prioritize participants whose goals align with the event.
